(Kamisama Hajimemashita) Summary of "Kami to Shinshi no Keiyaku".

Hello, taking a short break from my translation work so I am back with the summary for "Kami to Shinshi no Keiyaku" (The Contract Between a God and a Familiar). There are actually 2 episodes from this Drama CD, with the 2nd episode being "Kami to Shinshi no Nichijou" (The Daily Life of a God and a Familiar). Although we haven't seen Nanami in "Band Hajimemashita" and also in the first episode of this Drama CD, we will be hearing from her quite a bit in the 2nd episode!

Again, much apologies for the delay. Real life caught up on me real quick so I can't dedicate much of my free time to translating for fun now. A student's got to eat, hahaha. Fret not, for I will do my best to finish this up eventually even if I can only translate bit by bit every day. Hope you enjoy the summary! The next post will be the summary for "Kami to Shinshi no Nichijou" (The Daily Life of a God and a Familiar). Please support the series by buying the originals once they are available in your country! You can order this Drama CD from Amazon Japan right here.

The story begins with Tomoe wandering around, looking for a place to die and he ran into Mikage. (This is the part where we saw in the anime.) Mikage brings Tomoe back to his shrine and asks him about his contract with a fallen God. Tomoe confesses that he wanted to spend his whole life with a human girl by turning himself into a human. Apparently, the woman died and he can no longer live on. Since he failed in becoming a human, he can't join the woman even after he dies. Mikage seems touched that a demon like him is capable of loving a human so deeply. He decides to lend him the power to forget so that the curse will not re-activate until Tomoe once again remembers the girl he loves. Tomoe forgets about the girl and the contract he made with the fallen God, which temporarily stops the curse from progressing.

Mikage looks for Tomoe around the shrine and couldn't find him. The scene changes to two demons fighting over their prey and Tomoe appears to provoke them into a fight. Intimidated, the demons ran away and Tomoe is disappointed for not being able to fight. Tomoe wonders what he is going to do next and the demons returned with another demon, in hopes of defeating Tomoe.

Mikage apologizes to a guy who complains about Tomoe's fights affecting his business. It is the 12th time in a week that Tomoe got complained, as Mikage lists the problems Tomoe caused and the things he destroyed. A woman comes to the shrine to pray for her domestic chickens to calm down since they haven't been laying eggs. She heard some fighting noises, which Mikage assumes to be Tomoe. Mikage reminisces about the peaceful yet dull life before Tomoe's arrival and sets out to answer the prayers of his followers.

Tomoe came back to the shrine, muttering about how small and run-down it is. He sees Mikage, who is still up to appreciate the full moon. Mikage invites him to moon-viewing as well as Tomoe thinks about Mikage being a weird guy, letting him do whatever he wants and not complaining. Tomoe came to the conclusion that it must be because he himself doesn't care about what he does. Mikage mentions that Tomoe goes out a lot and Tomoe asked if it is an eyesore. Mikage said there is nothing wrong in doing whatever he wants as long as Tomoe does not leave without saying a word. Mikage tries to make Tomoe promise him this one thing but Tomoe is unsure about it and said he will keep it in his mind. Mikage muses about how it is just like him to say something like that.

Mikage messes up while doing household chores and Tomoe asks him what is he doing. Mikage asks Tomoe for help since he has free time. Tomoe is embarrassed when Mikage praises him. He accidentally threw a book at Mikage while helping him out and Mikage indignantly told him to not throw stuff at him. Tomoe, embarrassed, stomps out of the house and told Mikage to not treat him like a kid when Mikage told him to be careful. Tomoe mentions he is not sure when he will be returning. Mikage chuckles and mentions how Tomoe looks all embarrassed.

Otohiko comments on how shabby Mikage's shrine is (as always) and calls out to ascertain if anyone is home. Tomoe answers by asking who is making a din outside of a shrine. Both of them asked for each other's identity.. Otohiko claims to be Mikage's closest friend, the Wind God. He says he did not hear anything about Mikage living with someone else. Tomoe says he has no intention of living with anyone. Otohiko continues probing Tomoe about him being a demon and staying with Mikage. Tomoe snaps back by telling Otohiko to ask Mikage himself. Mikage greets Otohiko, who asks him about Tomoe. Mikage introduces Tomoe and says that they are currently living together. Otohiko huffs at his lack of explanation and Mikage says there is no further explanation. Otohiko mentions how it is just like him to say that, as always.

Otohiko shifts his attention back to Tomoe, noting on his rebellious attitude and takes a liking to him. He offers him a position as a familiar at his shrine. Tomoe asks what is a familiar and Otohiko is surprised that Mikage did not mention it even once to Tomoe although he is freeloading at his house. After understanding what a familiar does, Tomoe indignantly says he will not become anybody's servant. Otohiko continues pressing on Tomoe and even tried to force-kiss him (Otohiko is scary..) to seal the contract, to the point that Tomoe storms out of the house. Otohiko laments at Tomoe's escape and Mikage says it's because Otohiko is too overbearing. Otohiko retorts indignantly and continues lamenting at how close he came to acquiring Tomoe as a familiar.

While walking, Tomoe thinks about what Otohiko told him earlier. He wonders why Mikage never brought it up and decided it must be because Mikage never thought of him as an appropriate familiar candidate. Tomoe reasons that he is always going out, having fun and causing trouble. He decides to drop by the Tanukos' (raccoon lady escorts) again for some fun.

Mikage hears a sound and frantically asked if it's Tomoe. It's the 7th day since Tomoe left the shrine without a word. Tomoe never went out for such long periods of time. Mikage decides to set out and look for Tomoe. Mikage asks around but nobody could give him an answer. He runs into a clueless shopkeeper who did not understand the drawing of Tomoe's face when Mikage showed it to him. The shopkeeper asks Mikage about Tomoe's identity and Mikage told him that Tomoe is a demon, who left the shrine for a week now. He suggests that a demon such as Tomoe could have went back to the mountains. Mikage says that it isn't true, or so he would like to believe. Mikage says he told Tomoe to never leave without saying a word. The shopkeeper told him to pin Tomoe's drawing up in his shop and promises to let Mikage know if anybody has information. Mikage thanks the shopkeeper and wonders if Tomoe got himself into trouble, saying it would be nice if he is fine.

Tomoe finally stumbles back to the shrine, covered in blood. Mikage fusses over him, asking if he is injured. He notes how there is blood on Tomoe's clothes. Tomoe says that the blood isn't his, adding that it's from his opponent. Mikage asks if Tomoe got into a fight, Tomoe answers by saying he did not lose. Mikage sighs and says he's been worried. He asks what Tomoe was up to, to abandon the shrine without a word like that. Tomoe answers by saying nothing but Mikage, unsatisfied and getting angry, says that it is not "nothing" and that he has been looking for Tomoe here and there. Tomoe retorts by saying he did not ask Mikage to do so. Tomoe asks if he's feeling like a good God for being compassionate towards a homeless demon like him. Tomoe adds that it is too bad that he could have left Mikage alone but came back to bother him instead. He continues by saying he has no idea what Mikage intends by letting him stay but he will not be grateful since he isn't a person like that. Tomoe says that Mikage doesn't care about him anyway, and mentions it is the same for him towards Mikage.

Mikage finally speaks up, saying that's not true. Tomoe gets surprised and asks what did he say. Mikage reminds him of the promise of not leaving the shrine without a word. Mikage says that he has been worried and it was harsh of Tomoe to say that he didn't care. Tomoe retorts by saying his worries are unnecessary and continues provoking Mikage. Mikage asks if Tomoe really thinks that way in a low voice and Tomoe asks if he has a problem with that. Mikage wonders if Tomoe thought that he didn't care because Tomoe didn't trust him. Tomoe says that Mikage is making a fuss out of nothing and that what he does has nothing to do with Mikage. Mikage says that if Tomoe does not keep his promise and does something bad again, even someone like him will get angry.  Tomoe says it does not bother him at all even if Mikage gets angry. Mikage corners Tomoe and declares that he will make him his familiar. Stumbling noises ensues and they sealed the contract. (Oh God, why.. I didn't want to imagine them kissing..) Tomoe splutters and gasps.

Mikage admits that he didn't want to make Tomoe his familiar, thinking that it is enough to just keep him by his side. Then, he says that it isn't enough to just do that after all and decides to have a tighter hold on Tomoe to look after him, adding that he can't leave him alone. Tomoe asks Mikage to not joke around, saying he wont become a familiar or serve anyone. He declares that he will be leaving this shabby shrine.. until Mikage commands him to stop. Tomoe finds out that he couldn't move his legs and Mikage asks him to return. Against his own wishes, Tomoe's legs brought him back to Mikage. Utterly confused, Tomoe asks what did Mikage did to him. Mikage explains to Tomoe about his powers as a Land God, which includes words of chains used to control familiars. He tells Tomoe that there is no way he can disobey his orders now. Tomoe is utterly shocked by now. Mikage adds that they will always be together now and if Tomoe did anything bad, he will make him kneel. Tomoe starts getting angry but Mikage asks him for some tea. He told him the location of the tea leaves and also his favourite snack. Although reluctant, Tomoe has no choice but to make tea for Mikage.

Otohiko is surprised to find that Mikage made Tomoe his familiar. Although upset at first, he immediately forgives Mikage since it is unusual for a God to not have one. He asks about Tomoe's performance and mentions that if Mikage finds him unsatisfactory, he can always take Tomoe off his hands. Although Mikage is unsure about Tomoe's abilities as a familiar, he says that he is looking forward to living together carefreely.. until the day Tomoe remembers his past again.

=====================================================================

I didn't know the summary would become so long.. it still took less time compared to translations though. I usually listen to a track for more than a few times to fully translate it. Not to worry, I'll start translating this in detail after I have some free time!

Also, I collected this from the post office today!

Tomoe bedsheets!

I honestly didn't expect to get this since it's only available at certain game centres in Japan but by a stroke of luck, I managed to find it on MBok (Japanese auction site) for a decent price~ So happy! Too bad I am sleeping on a queen-size bed now so I'll have to keep this until I get a single bed.

Back to work! Until next time, fellow fangirls~
